Does your family like Peter Rabbit as much as I do? I love the original books by Beatrix Potter, I love the series on Nickelodeon, and I love the new movies! There's something about Peter and his sense of adventure that I adore - I wish sometimes I could be more like Peter, but usually, I am more like Benjamin Bunny :) During our first week out of school (which seems like SO long ago!) 2nd grade read "The Tale of Peter Rabbit," wrote letters to Peter and even designed their own vegetable gardens. Please enjoy this video of "The Tale of Peter Rabbit" read by Rose Byrne, one of the stars of the "Peter Rabbit" movie. The video is from Storyline Online which has several wonderful books read by different celebrities. Besides "Peter Rabbit," I love "I Need My Monster" and "Brave Irene."

We've talked about using Sora to read e-books, but we also have free access to MyOn during our time at home. MyOn has over 6,500 books at all different level for our Elden Eagles. To access MyOn: 1. Go to www.myon.com 2. Click the login button at the top of the screen 3. Enter the following on the login page / School Name: New York Reads (begin typing and click on the school from the drop-down menu) / username: read / password: books You can search by categories, or search by reading level, grade level or even language. I love these different versions of classic fairy tales told by unexpected characters. - Believe me, Goldilocks Rocks!: The Story of the Three Bears as Told by Baby Bear - Seriously, Cinderella is So Annoying!: The Story of Cinderella as Told by the Wicked Stepmother - Honestly, Red Riding Hood was Rotten! The Story of Little Red Riding Hood as Told by the Wolf There are MANY more "The Other Side of Story" books - which one do you like best? Today's book is indeed a graphic novel, "El Deafo" by Cece Bell. A lot of people think (and worry) that reading a graphic novel doesn't count as "real" reading. Graphic novels are awesome if you are a struggling reader, and they also help you build vocab, understand sequence of events, and making inferences. "El Deafo" was awarded a Newbery Honor Award (outstanding work of literature, or the text of a story) in 2015. And this year, another graphic novel, "New Kid" by Jerry Craft, was the 1st graphic novel to win the Newbery Award top honor! Pretty impressive! Other popular graphic novels available on Sora: "Guts", "Sisters" and "Smile" by Raina Telegemeir "Dog Man" Series by Dav Pilkey "All's Faire in Middle School" and "Roller Girl" by Victoria Jamieson
Happy Wednesday Elden Eagles! Wednesday's means time for my favorite TV show, "Survivor!" I never miss an episode!
In today's Instagram video, I features a few of my favorite books that are available on Sora right now (well, hopefully someone will check them out!). If you are familiar with Overdrive through the public library, Sora is the kids version of this service provided through BOCES for it's schools. It has audio and e-books that you check out, just as you would a traditional library book. Below is a video of how to find and check out a book! Please feel free to reach out to me if you need help using this resource - I am HAPPY to help! Link to SORA Select "Baldwinsville" from the drop down menu Enter your school computer ID (ex: 26JBrown123 -- this is your ID without the @ bville.org ending) and the password: books Loving this book - "What You Eat: Pictures and Answers for the Curious Mind" by Valorie Fisher. We are big foodies at my house - my whole family will eat just about everything, we love to cook and bake, and most night can find us watching cooking shows on TV ("Great British Baking Show" is probably our current favorite). This book is so interesting because it very simply shows you where all the ingredients for your favorite meals come from using great illustrations and diagrams. Ever wondered how a cucumber becomes a dill pickle? Or the difference between white and dark chocolate? Good evening Eagles! Today I wanted to talk about one of my favorite things, CODING! There are sooo many of you who do amazing things when we code and you always surprise me with how incredibly successful you are at it. Today's book is "Girls Who Code: The Friendship Code" by Stacia Deutsch. Computer science is where the jobs are, and where they will be in the future! Learn these skills now and you no doubt will get a great job after graduation.
Want to get coding during our time at home? Check out the resources below: Girls Who Code: weekly activities, some online, some office, and varying levels of difficulty. Code.org: you can choose to do an “hour of code” activity or sign in with their google account to save their work Anyone keeping a journal or diary while we are out of school? This is really a very different time in our lives - I've never experience anything like this and am trying to take a few brief notes each day so I can look back later in life and remember. Our book of the day is "Brave the Page: A young Writer's Guide to Telling Epic Stories." This nonfiction book will help all your young writers develop, craft and hone your own personal stories from start to finish. Everyone's story matters - the world needs to hear yours! NaNoWriMo (National Novel Writing Month) helps young writers create and tell their stories. Besides this book, they have a great website to help you start writing! https://ywp.nanowrimo.org/ - I encourage you to check it out if you are interested in one day becoming an author! Our new book of the day is "Unlimited Squirrels in Who is the Mystery Reader?" by Mo Willems. My favorite Squirrel is Wowie Squirrel! As always, there is a hidden Pigeon illustration somewhere in the book! Mo is doing this awesome series on YouTube called "Lunch Doodles With Mo Willems." We have been watching every day at our house. You get to see around Mo's studio at his home in Massachusetts and learn to draw lots of his characters. Here are some other amazing read-alouds to watch! - Josh Gad (Olaf from Frozen) has been doing a daily book from his Twitter account. Follow him @joshgad #GadBookClub - Your favorite celebrities read books each day on the Save With Stories Instrgram Account. My favorite so far has been Jimmy Fallon reading his book "This is Baby".
